Parish Plan Networking Event
Community Action Hampshire will soon be holding its latest Parish Plan Networking Evening, which will be taking place in Winchester District. The event at Littleton Memorial Hall on September 10 will focus on producing good questionnaires, with a guest speaker from West Berkshire Council which is recognised as a Beacon Council in relation to community planning.
Further information and a booking form can be found via the website or a place can be booked by contacting Community Action Hampshire direct.

If
you are undertaking a parish plan, or are thinking of doing so, then officers at Winchester City Council would like to know about it and might be able to help.

Explore Winchester’s Hidden Heritage For Free
Winchester Open Weekend (WOW) returns for its seventh year this September with a host of FREE events and activities allowing everyone a peek into some of the District's most intriguing buildings.
The event is co-ordinated by Winchester City Council's tourism service and runs alongside the Civic Trust's annual Heritage Open Days; a scheme which aims to encourage the public to take an interest in the architectural and cultural heritage on their doorstep.

Freedom From Fear Survey
The Winchester Community Safety Partnership will soon be asking community representatives and partners for their views, experiences and recorded incidents of crime and disorder within their local communities.
This will be your opportunity to participate in the discussion that is currently taking place around future priorities and targets that will aim to reduce crime and disorder across the district.
Look out for the online survey when it is published in early September.

New Athletics Track For The District
Members of the Winchester District Athletics Track celebrated earlier this month when work on the Outdoor Sports Centre in Winchester got underway.
The facility will be a real bonus to athletes across the whole district when it is ready, as it will include an Olympic standard 400m eight-lane athletics track with supporting field events, an all-weather hockey and general sports pitch, floodlighting and an extended pavilion.

Improved access to services in Winchester’s towns and larger villages
Winchester City Council’s project to increase access to services should take significant steps forward over the next couple of months.

The Council’s Cabinet recently approved a programme of work that should see a better range of services on offer in Denmead and in Colden Common before the end of 2007 and similar steps taken in Bishops Waltham, Wickham and hopefully Whiteley during 2008. It is also intended to take steps to provide a better service in New Alresford, where a pilot scheme has been running for several months.

The aim is to enable residents to access a wider range of services, ideally from one place. To maximise this it is intended to work with community centres, village halls and parish councils to find a well-used location that will be convenient for lots of people. The Council is working with other organisations such as Hampshire County Council and the Police to maximise the opportunity to bring together a range of services and information.

While it will not be possible to take services directly to all communities within the district, it is hoped that by the end of 2008 nobody should have to travel too far to access basic services from the Council and other partner organisations. This should therefore be of interest to other parishes situated close to Denmead and Colden Common; and all parishes as the project develops during 2008.

We are very keen to hear what services people would like to see made available at a location nearer to them. Any comments or suggestions should be directed to Steve Lincoln, the Council’s Community Planning Manager, at slincoln@winchester.gov.uk or by phone on 01962 848 110. This will help us to shape the services available to best suit the needs of local people.
